The 2012 Hyundai Veloster has been named one of the "ten coolest new cars under $18,000" by Kelly Blue Book’s kbb.com
The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is getting a lot of attention these days for its unique new styling and innovative technology. The three-door coupe from South Korea has gotten the attention of the automotive world and has been named one of the “10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000” by Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. The 2012 Hyundai Veloster has certainly challenged the staus quo in the auto world as the Hyundai Motor Group continues to bring new cars to market faster than any other carmaker.
The press release issued today by Hyundai says there are two key factors that the editors of the new and used information resource use to determine which cars are picked for the award. In order to make the KBB list, the cars must be fun-to-drive and fun-to-own. But a very subjective “cool factor” is also one of the criteria that the 2012 Veloster had to meet.
“Packed with a unique brand of versatility, innovative technology and left-field styling, the Hyundai Veloster challenges the status quo to a duel,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. “The 3-door Veloster – one on the driver’s side, two on the other – is among the most distinctive cars available at any price.”
Another key criteria that KBB uses is that each vehicle on the list must be available for purchase for under $18,000. Kelley Blue Book uses their exclusive Fair Purchase Price as the measuring stick. KBB’s Fair Purchase Price is the price consumers typically pay for a car, based on actual new-vehicle transactions and updated weekly for changing market conditions.
The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is selling fast
The 2012 Hyundai Veloster has certainly been popular with buyers, as we reported here two weeks ago. U.S. dealers can’t keep up with the demand for the base model Veloster. "Availability is tight, the car is in high demand," said Krafcik. "It's like Apple with iPhones. They aren't sold out, but they are hard to get. We're still in that wonderful phase. We are literally selling the cars as they come off the car carriers."
The Hyundai Veloster is a unique vehicle that has a fresh new design, and advanced technology features at an affordable price. And what makes the Veloster extremely attractive to consumers, is the three-door car gets excellent fuel-economy posting 40 mpg on the highway. The Veloster is one of Hyundai’s first models to achieve the 40 mpg rating.
The fast-selling Veloster delivers the functionality of a hatchback but style and sporty design of a coupe which is appealing to consumers. It also has new technology that buyers are looking for. The Veloster features Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics system and Pandora internet radio with seven-inch touch-screen display.
The South Korean company is developing cars like the 2012 Hyundai Veloster that are getting the attention of consumers and the automotive world. Look for the Hyundai Motor Group to be a major player as they continue to challenge the conventional wisdom.

We’ve all seen some obvious product placement in movies and on television and AMC’s The Walking Dead is no exception. You may remember the survivors making a little too big a deal over their Hyundai Tuscon in Season 2 (AMC later went on to give that car away in a sweepstakes) but when you’ve got a good thing going you should stick with it. That why TWD creator Robert Kikman has teamed with Hyundai to create a zombie-proof car in honor of the 100th issue of the Image comic book.
Kirkman’s Skybound imprint and Hyundai present the Elentra GT Coupe sweepstakes. “I don’t know a lot about cars,” said Kirkman in a promotional video, “but I do know a lot about zombie apocalypse and what I would like to have to survive. And so I think I’ll be able to come up with something that looks cool but may not be very practical or effective because I’m not good with physics and stuff like that. But it seemed like a fun challenge.”
In The Walking Dead comic, Kirkman devised a modified Hyundai for zombie-avoiding purposes. Here’s what it looks like.
Kirkman said that most important aspect of the car is the mobility, and apparently the car is pretty fuel efficient in real life, but I can’t help but wonder, wouldn’t a hybrid be a lot more beneficial in a gas-lite apocalyptic world?
You may remember we recently brought you the story about how you can take part in the Walking Dead zombie escape route at San Diego Comic-Con this year, well, the zombie-proof car will also be on display at the convention at the Hyundai Undead booth.
The sweepstakes ends July 31 and the grand prize winner gets a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. Take a look at what else Kirkman had to say about it:
