Just the Facts:

  • Images of the redesigned 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe were released this week on several Korean Web sites, including the automaker's own blog.
  • The new Santa Fe is slated to make its public debut next week at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
  • The Santa Fe has been extensively redesigned inside and out.

Images of the redesigned 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe were released this week on several Korean Web sites, including the automaker's own blog, ahead of the car's public debut next week at the 2012 New York Auto Show.

The 2013 Santa Fe, which goes on sale later this year in the U.S., has been extensively redesigned inside and out. The exterior styling appears to have been inspired by that of the smaller Tucson crossover.

The images reveal three rows of seats for the Korean domestic market, a more sculpted instrument panel and a premium two-tone leather treatment with wood and metallic trim.

The home-market Santa Fe will offer such features as a lane-departure warning system, smart parking assist and a BlueLink infotainment system.

A 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine will be available in Korea, but probably not in the U.S.

Hyundai announces exciting model year changes for 2013 Elantra

27718_1_1

Elantra, the 2012 North American Car of the Year and one of the hottest selling cars in the country, will continue its record setting pace with changes for the 2013 model year. On sale now, the 2013 Elantra GLS and Limited lineups will further delight shoppers with new standard and optional equipment.

The 2013 Elantra GLS M/T now comes with the same level of equipment as the 2012 Elantra GLS M/T with Comfort Package. For shoppers, this means the Elantra GLS M/T now comes standard with air-conditioning, 16- versus 15-inch wheels, cruise control, telescopic steering wheel and solar glass with windshield shade band. Heated front seats are also now included on the high volume GLS A/T Preferred Package.

Elantra Limited adds a standard power driver’s seat with power lumbar support and an available Dual Automatic Temperature Control with Clean Air Ionizer and Auto Defog System as part of the Limited Technology Package.

NEW EQUIPMENT HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2013 ELANTRA

  • The GLS M/T base model has been upgraded to include air conditioning, cruise control, 16-inch steel wheels, telescopic steering wheel and solar glass with windshield shade band (2012MY M/T Comfort Package)
  • Heated front seats have been added to the GLS A/T Preferred Package
  • Power driver seat with lumbar support has been added as a standard feature to the Limited trim
  • Dual automatic temperature control has been added to the Limited Technology Package
  • Atlantic Blue has been added the color palette

Elantra continues to deliver an EPA certified 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, producing a highway-only driving range of up to 500 miles. Entering the third model year of sales, no other competitor has yet to offer 40 mpg highway standard for all trim levels. Led by Elantra, sales of Hyundai 40 mpg models (Accent, Veloster, Elantra, Sonata Hybrid) have made Hyundai number one in fuel economy and CO2 emissions in America by topping the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel economy rankings for the 2010 model year, beating out traditional leaders Honda and Toyota. No automaker scored higher than Hyundai. This is the second time Hyundai has led in both categories, having achieved this distinction previously for the 2008 model year.

The EPA 2011 Light-Duty Automotive Technology and Fuel Economy Trends Report identified Hyundai as the top 2010 brand with an adjusted fuel economy rating of 27.0 miles per gallon. In addition to being named the most fuel efficient brand, Hyundai also had the lowest fleet-wide adjusted composite CO2 emissions performance (329 g/mi) for the 2010 model year.

The EPA 2011 Trends Report also indicates that preliminary 2011 model year values suggest that Hyundai will maintain its fuel economy leadership. Forecasts show that Hyundai will achieve an adjusted fuel economy rating of 27.5 miles per gallon in the 2011 model year.

Fuel economy is the primary reason for purchasing a new car in the compact segment, especially with gas prices exceeding $4 per gallon in many areas of the U.S. Due to rising fuel costs, more than 60 percent of compact car buyers are downsizing for better fuel efficiency with many of these buyers choosing highly contented vehicles.

Elantra also leads its segment in residual value having won the ALG Residual Value Award in the Compact Car segment for the second year in a row.

HYUNDAI “FLUIDIC SCULPTURE” DESIGN
Elantra exemplifies Hyundai’s emotional “Fluidic Sculpture” design principles. “Fluidic Sculpture” considers the interplay of wind with rigid surfaces to create the illusion of constant motion. Elantra is an evolution of the design qualities found in Sonata.

Along Elantra’s sides are Sonata’s flowing lines, with the addition of a strong undercut feature line starting at the front door. These lines, along with muscular wheel arches and a sleek roofline, create a memorable and spacious package. Flowing lines also lead to an aerodynamic body. The drag coefficient for the Elantra is an exceptionally low 0.28 that compares favorably to the Chevrolet Volt (0.29).

Hyundai’s signature hexagonal front grille and detailed swept-back headlights give Elantra a compact athletic face. The assertive stance is complimented by 16- or 17-inch wheels and athletic proportions. Available fog lights and side mirrors with integrated turn signals complete the distinct design. Elantra was designed at Hyundai's North American Design Center in Irvine, Calif.

40 MPG POWERTRAIN
Under the hood, the Elantra is powered by an all-new 1.8-liter Nu four-cylinder engine with 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque (145 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque for Elantra PZEV). Thanks to advanced clean engine technology, most Elantras sold in California, Oregon and several Northeast states are certified as Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) by the EPA. The PZEV Elantra is as clean as many hybrid electric vehicles. The PZEV Elantra helps Hyundai meet its environmental commitments. Outside of these “green” states, the Elantra is available as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV).

Key Engine Components

  • Aluminum block and head
  • Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT)
  • Variable Induction System (VIS)
  • Roller swing arm and Hydraulic Lash Adjusters (HLA)
  • Electronic throttle control
  • Offset crankshaft

The Nu engine features an aluminum block with a cast iron cylinder liner, cylinder head and crank. The 1.8-liter Nu also offers Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) camshafts and hydraulic engine mounts for optimum power, efficiency and refinement. Using CVVT on both camshafts has several advantages when compared with using it just on the intake camshaft including, a two percent improvement in performance (increased volumetric efficiency), two percent improvement in fuel economy (reduced pumping loss) and a 30 percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. In the valvetrain, roller swing arms and hydraulic lash adjusters reduce valve driven friction to improve fuel economy one percent compared with direct valve driving. The Nu engine also features a maintenance-free silent timing chain system to enhance durability and improve Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH).

The application of a plastic two-stage Variable Intake System (VIS) versus aluminum, enables switching between long and short intake manifolds, resulting in a four percent improvement in performance, a 15 percent reduction in cost and a 30 percent reduction in weight.

Another tool Hyundai engineers have incorporated into Elantra is an electronic throttle control. The electronic throttle control replaces the conventional cable and mechanical linkage with fast responding electronics. This system accurately controls air intake and engine torque, improving drivability, response and fuel economy.

The Nu four-cylinder engine also has an offset crankshaft design that reduces friction between the piston and cylinder wall for a one percent improvement in fuel economy.

SIX-SPEED TRANSMISSIONS
The 2012 Elantra can be equipped with a six-speed manual (M6CF3-1) or automatic (A6GF1) transaxle with SHIFTRONIC manual control. This transmission mated to the 1.8-liter Nu engine helps Elantra deliver improved fuel efficiency.

Elantra’s six-speed manual transmission is also all-new and provides crisp shifts and further optimizes engine performance. These crisp shifts are courtesy of triple-cone synchronizers for first and second gears, double-cone for third gear and single-cone for fourth, fifth and sixth gears.

OVERALL DIMENSIONS
Elantra is a “class above” when it comes to interior room, in comparison to the new Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. In fact, the Elantra is so roomy the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies it as a mid-size car, not a compact car like Civic and Corolla.
Elantra’s total interior volume of 110.4 cubic feet beats the 2012 Honda Civic sedan, 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, 2012 Ford Focus and 2012 Toyota Corolla. Surprisingly, it even surpasses the Acura TSX (108.5 cu. ft.), Nissan Maxima (110.0 cu. ft), and VW CC (106.8 cu. ft.) in total interior volume. Ultimately, the long wheelbase allows for compact car efficiency with mid-size car comfort. An example of this is found in the long seat track, delivering best-in-class front seat legroom. Elantra’s trunk volume at 14.8 cubic feet also beats Civic and Corolla.

ELANTRA ARCHITECTURE
The Elantra is fitted with a McPherson strut front suspension, with coil springs and gas shock absorbers. The rear suspension is a light weight coupled torsion beam rear suspension for enhanced steering stability and monotube shock absorbers for ride comfort. A 23.0 mm diameter front stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering.

All Elantras have column-mounted, motor-driven electric power steering that adjusts instantly to changing driving conditions while improving fuel economy over a conventional steering system. A quick-ratio steering rack is used for crisp feel on turn-in. Elantra’s turning diameter of 34.8 feet is better than Corolla’s at 35.4 feet.

Elantra leads all of its competitors in weight efficiency and power-to-weight ratio.

Elantra’s widespread use of high-strength steel provides increased body stiffness at a lower body weight. High-strength steel allows the suspension to work optimally. At 2,701 pounds, the automatic transmission Elantra GLS is lighter than its competitors, while offering more interior room than Focus, Cruze, Civic and Corolla. This weight efficient unibody architecture allows for Elantra to achieve an estimated 40 mpg EPA highway rating, without the need for a special eco model.

MODERN, SOPHISTICATED INTERIOR
Inside the Elantra, customers will find Hyundai’s expertise in interior packaging, lighting, leading-edge design and craftsmanship. This approach is visible in the clarity of the instruments and the tilt and telescopic steering wheel. The seats are made of lightweight, environmentally friendly foam. Heated seats are available in the front and the rear, a segment first. Not only does Elantra have multiple storage areas, but it delivers useable storage capacity.

The 2013 Elantra GLS has a two-tone interior with a choice of either gray or beige. The Limited trim adds a monotone black interior. All Elantras have cloth-like pillar trim made of fibrous tissue and volcanic rock for a premium look and feel.

Elantra is available with two audio systems. Standard is a 172-watt AM/FM/Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system with six-speakers and iPod®/USB/auxiliary input jacks. A 360-watt system with external amplifier is optional.

Touch-screen navigation is available on GLS and Limited trims and includes a high-resolution 7.0-inch screen and voice-activation by headliner-mounted microphone. The sound system plays compact discs, accesses digital music files via Bluetooth streaming audio or allows driver and passenger to access their personal listening devices through the iPod/USB/auxiliary inputs. Bluetooth audio wirelessly streams music from select mobile phones to the head unit. The SiriusXM Satellite Radio interface is also integrated into the navigation unit and features channel logos, real-time NavTraffic and XM Data services, such as NavWeather®, Stock Ticker and Sports Ticker. The system also integrates a rear-view camera, which cannot be found on the Honda Civic or Mazda 3. Users can even upload personal pictures from a USB rather than a CD to be displayed on the system’s home screen.

Elantra owners can also get premium features, such as a proximity key with push button start and immobilizer, power sunroof, one touch driver’s window and leather seating surfaces. This modern, sophisticated interior is also whisper quiet.

ADVANCED STANDARD SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES: PART OF HYUNDAI’S ASSURANCE COMMITMENT
Elantra has Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) to optimally manages ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and the Motor-Driven electric Power Steering (MDPS).

VSM works to control two effects. The first is when a driver accelerates or brakes on a split-mu surface (slippery on one side, dry pavement on the other) and the vehicle wants to pull in one direction. VSM detects this condition and sends a signal to the MDPS to apply steering assist. VSM counters the pull and automatically provides eight Newton meters of counter steering. VSM reacts the same way during sudden lane changes or fast cornering.

Elantra features six airbags—including dual front, front seat-mounted side-impact, and front and rear side curtain airbags.

The Elantra also features a state-of-the-art braking package. The package includes four-wheel disc brakes and an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) including Brake Assist, which provides maximum braking force when a panic stop is detected. Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) automatically adjusts the braking force to front and rear axles based on vehicle loading conditions. This package delivers shorter braking distances from 60 miles per hour than Corolla and Mazda 3. Elantra engineers even looked at something as simple as the parking brake, with a rear parking brake caliper for weight reduction.

In terms of passive safety, the Elantra has strong unibody construction, along with front and rear crumple zones, and the rear doors have internal dual beams unlike some of its competitors.

Hyundai earns no. 2 ranking in Strategic Vision Total Value Index

Hyundai Tucson Takes Top Honors in the Small SUV Category

32812_1_1

Hyundai ranked as the number two brand in terms of Total Value, according to Strategic Vision’s 2012 Total Value Index™ (TVI). Additionally, Hyundai’s sleek crossover Tucson was named the “Small SUV” segment leader in Strategic Vision’s study. The TVI looks at all aspects of perceived value; from quality, to economics to customer appeal.

“Hyundai continues to shift the paradigm of how customers perceive real value in their automotive purchases,” said Alexander Edwards, president, Strategic Vision. “For example, customers who purchased a Hyundai Sonata explicitly stated that they ‘Love’ the product attributes such as styling as well as overall value more than any other buyer of models in the midsize segment. When such synergy exists, you have a leader in value that results in strong sales.”

Presented annually since 1995, the TVI was calculated from 68,088 buyers who purchased models during September 2010 to June 2011. Total Value is a calculation of explicit owner statements on 442 attributes and focuses on immediate and expected (long term) economic factors such as warranty, technical innovation, standard equipment and fuel economy.

“Hyundai’s continued rise in Strategic Vision’s TVI reinforces the strength of our brand and the appeal of our vehicles,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “With stand-out designs, loads of innovative features and outstanding fuel economy, it’s no wonder that vehicles like the Tucson are consistently exceeding the expectations of our customers.”

Hyundai’s star Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) Tucson strikes a stark contrast from its competitors and excels in every functional area, from its roomier cabin with extra cargo space to its excellent fuel economy and fun-to-drive personality. Tucson features the company’s “Fluidic Sculpture” design language and showcases precedent-setting engineering including advanced weight saving technology and two eco-efficient Theta II four-cylinder engines delivering up to 32 mpg on the highway.

Hyundai Earns Four Vincentric Best Value in America Awards

Four Hyundai models, Accent, Elantra, Genesis Coupe and Tucson earned the distinction of “Best Value in America” for 2012 from Vincentric, an automotive data compilation and analysis firm. Tucson earned top honors in the Crossover Compact Entry-Level category for the second year in a row. Accent won the award in the Subcompact category, Elantra in the Compact Sedan category and Genesis Coupe in the Mid-Size Coupe category.

141
“Hyundai’s four Vincentric Best Value in America winners reflect the gains Hyundai has shown over the past several years in terms of sales, styling, and overall market acceptance,” said David Wurster, president, Vincentric. “This creates strong residual values, which in turn reduces depreciation cost, thereby lowering total cost of ownership for Hyundai vehicles.”

Vincentric measures cost-of-ownership using eight different cost factors: depreciation, fuel, insurance, opportunity cost, financing, maintenance, taxes and state fees, and repairs. Using a statistical model, the company identified its Best Value in America winners by measuring which vehicles had a lower than expected ownership costs given their market segment and price. Each vehicle was evaluated in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia using a range of annual mileage intervals and insurance profiles.

“The Accent, Elantra, Genesis Coupe and Tucson are all prime examples of models that not only meet but exceed customer expectations when it comes to value,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Hyundai’s high fuel economy vehicles combined with its strong Assurance program reduces the overall cost of ownership and allows the company to offer quality vehicles with very strong residual values.”

Further information regarding all of the winners of the Vincentric Best Value in America awards for the 2012 model year and the Vincentric methodology is available at Vinventric's webpage.

Hyundai Motor Company Unveils Teaser Images Of All-New Santa Fe

  • All-new Santa Fe embodies “Storm Edge” design concept, hinting at Hyundai’s future SUV designs
35539_1_1
Hyundai Motor Co., one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing automakers, today unveiled exterior teaser images of the all-new Santa Fe, which had been known by its code name DM in Korea. The all-new Santa Fe will have its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show in early April.

Hyundai will keep the name “Santa Fe” for the new vehicle, continuing the solid brand heritage of the automaker’s most representative SUV model. The all-new Santa Fe, which is entering its third generation, has reached worldwide cumulative sales of about 2.56 million units (Korea: 680,000 / overseas: 1.95 million) since its 2000 debut.

35538_1_1
Based on Hyundai’s design philosophy, Fluidic Sculpture, the new Santa Fe adopts its own design concept called “Storm Edge,” which captures the strong and dynamic images created by nature during the formation of a storm.

The third-generation Santa Fe features sophisticated and refined lines, which are in harmony with bold and voluminous surfaces, completing a more aggressive and classic look than its predecessor.

The design adopts the hexagonal grille – a key design cue of the Hyundai family look – a two-tone voluminous bottom car body and wider front and rear bumpers, creating a futuristic and urban-style SUV image.

Dynamic side character lines give a more aerodynamic feeling, while emotional details expressed on the exterior design deliver a premium image, suggesting a new design direction for Hyundai’s next-generation SUVs.

The all-new Santa Fe, whose core product concepts are “Refinement,” ”Smartness” and “Practicality, ” is expected to be a hit in the global SUV market, offering the best value to customers in every aspect, with its differentiated design, cutting-edge technologies, good fuel economy and practical use of space.

Hyundai reveals All New i20 ahead of Geneva debut

  • New 1,1-litre powertrain emits 84 g/km – one of the best in segment
  • First image reveals design update, influenced by fluidic sculpture
  • Five Year Triple Care standard on All New i20

Hyundai has released the first image of the All New i20, ahead of its world premiere at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The new model will take the stage three years after the launch of the original i20, featuring refreshed styling, enhanced equipment and among the lowest CO2 emissions in the European B-segment.

35492_1_1
Among the four powertrain options available to buyers of the All New i20 will be the new 1,1-litre, 3-cylinder ‘U-II’ diesel engine that generates 75 ps. When mated to technologies from Hyundai’s Blue Drive sub-brand, the upgraded model emits just 84 g/km of CO2. The engine was developed at Hyundai’s Diesel Centre of Excellence – part of the European R&D set-up in Rüsselsheim, Germany – and showcases Hyundai expertise in clean diesel technology.

This ground-breaking new engine will be offered alongside another sub-100 g/km diesel. When combined with Blue Drive technologies, the upgraded 1,4-litre ‘U-II’ 90 ps engine emits 96 g/km.

The debut of the All New i20 sees the introduction of fluidic sculpture form language to Hyundai’s supermini. The revised exterior design carries the hallmarks of Hyundai styling, including the company’s signature hexagonal grille and new headlamp units. Updating their own design from the original i20, the stylists at Hyundai’s European design studio have further modernised All New i20 with a more contemporary profile for the front and rear bumpers, a new sculpted bonnet and new wheel designs.

In terms of dimensions, the width (1710 mm), height (1490 mm) and wheelbase (2525 mm) of All New i20 remain the same, while the length has increased by just 55 mm (front 30 mm, rear 25 mm) over its predecessor to 3995 mm.

Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Europe commented, “The i20 has been very popular with European buyers since it came to market in 2009, thanks to its combination of efficiency, quality, practicality and value. With an enhanced powertrain line-up that includes some of the cleanest powertrains in its segment, and sharper styling influenced by fluidic sculpture, the All New i20 will appeal to a broader range of buyers, including younger consumers. The 2013 Hyundai i30 Tourer

The all-new 2013 Hyundai i30 Tourer / Wagon will make its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show, but the details and pictures of the latest addition to Hyundai’s i30 range is enough to get the pulse racing.

2012-hyundai-i30-wagon
The i30 Tourer has the same running gear and engine as the 5-door Hyundai i30, but it sports a longer, more stylish body that adds plenty of space in the trunk area.

Compared to the previous model, the i30 Tourer’s length increased 185 mm for a total of 4,485 mm, which makes it one of the most spacious models in the European C-segment car category.

That extra space is most notable in the trunk of the new i30 Tourer, which now comes in at a very roomy, best-in-segment 528 litres. That is a good sight larger than its 5-door Hyundai i30 sibling, which has a still very impressive 378 litre capacity. In addition, even more space can be created by folding down the rear seats, tripling capacity to 1,642 litres.

Much like the hatchback version, the i30 Tourer was designed with the European customer in mind. Designed at Hyundai’s European Research and Development centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, both the wagon and the hatchback versions of the i30 were developed at the same time so as to allow the stylists to create a strong family resemblance whilst following the fluidic sculpture that Hyundai Motor Company now employs on all their vehicles.

From the front, the i30 Tourer / Wagon looks much like the 5-door version, with its hexagon shaped grille and jewel-like headlamps.

It’s the rear-end that sets the wagon apart though, with the roofline extending over the passenger and cargo area in a way that adds a real dynamic element to its overall stance. That is part of the fluidic sculpture approach which basically tries to make a stationary vehicle appear as though it is in motion.

That’s not the only thing that makes the body look so dynamic though, with that look being aided by a horizontal swage line that runs along the sides of the body, rising up to meet the rear lights.

The rear windscreen and deep tailgate also add to the effect, and owners will love that the tailgate opens to bumper level, making it much easier to load and unload items in the trunk.

The second-generation Hyundai i30 Tourer / Wagon will come in three different petrol and diesel options, which happen to be the same options as the 5-door. Depending on choice, they will produce anywhere from 90 to 135 horsepower. It will also come with a Five Year Triple Care package which includes 5-years of unlimited warranty, roadside assistance, and vehicle health checks.

A huge thanks to Mike A. for his sterling review! Great job, team!

"I was dreading the car buying experience and after several visits to other dealers and going through the usual "Sales Process" I stopped in at Fairfax Hyundai. I was suprised by how quick and easy it was to get right down to the numbers on my trade and the price for my new car. The whole negotation was over within 10 minutes and I am definitely going to recommend Fairfax Hyundai to others." - Mike A.

Hyundai Assurance has your back!

More than a decade ago, Hyundai pioneered America's Best Warranty to show you the faith we have in our cars. It's our 10-Year/100,000-Mile powertrain protection.

2012-03-05_1420

For more than a decade, America's Best Warranty hasn't just changed how our customers feel about their cars, it's changed how we build vehicles. To make sure we deliver automobiles worthy of a 10-year warranty, Hyundai initiated the Drive Defects to Zero plan. This program has a dedicated team of Hyundai engineers that are charged with catching, learning about and fixing any issue, no matter how small, before it gets to the customer.

America's Best Warranty does more than give you peace of mind, it's a commitment from Hyundai to maintain a high degree of quality, dependability and reliability.

A big shout-out to Rob for this five-star review! We appreciate your patronage and feedback!

"I bought at 2012 Elantra in January and I love this car. The salesperson was excellent. He listened to my needs and was eager to please. Getting free oil changes and state inspections for life is a major perk. The finance department was a little pushy, but everyone else completely made up for it. I highly recommend this dealership." - Rob

Hyundai Motor America Reports Record February Sales!

  • Total sales up 18 percent, retail sales up 29 percent
  • Veloster sales nearly double over January
  • 40 percent achieve 40 MPG highway
  • All-time record 37.7 mpg CAFE level

Hyundai Motor America today announced all-time record February sales of 51,151 units, up 18 percent versus 2011.

Hyundai-motors_7
“February business was surprisingly strong for Hyundai,” said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America’s executive vice president, national sales. “Although we continue to deal with tight vehicle supply across the country, our core vehicles -- Sonata, Elantra and Accent -- all saw healthy double digit sales increases for the month. Additionally, combined sales of our premium Genesis/Equus models were up five percent over last year, setting all-time records in premium segment retail market share.”

Overall retail sales through dealerships rose 29 percent from last February. Sonata, Elantra and Accent total sales increases were 11 percent, 12 percent and 29 percent, respectively. Fleet mix remains low at eight percent as the focus remains on retail customers.

“Our marketing investments in the Super Bowl and Academy Awards have once again delivered strong consumer demand across our lineup,” said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America’s president and CEO. “Even in the face of strong new competitors, Sonata and Elantra led the mid-size and compact segments in shopping interest at mid-month, according to data from Compete.”

Hyundai achieved a corporate average fuel economy level of 37.7 MPG (28.3 MPG label value) in February, one full MPG higher than January, while selling 20,302 vehicles (40 percent of total sales) with 40 MPG window label highway fuel economy ratings. That’s up from 35.2 MPG in February 2011, a seven percent increase. “With fuel prices over $4/gallon in much of the country, consumers continue to find a lot to like across Hyundai’s industry-leading fuel-efficient lineup,” said Krafcik. “Our plants are hard at work doing all they can to meet the extraordinary demand we’re seeing, especially for Accent, Veloster, Elantra, and Sonata.”
