The 2013 Hyundai i30 Tourer

The all-new 2013 Hyundai i30 Tourer / Wagon will make its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show, but the details and pictures of the latest addition to Hyundai’s i30 range is enough to get the pulse racing.

The i30 Tourer has the same running gear and engine as the 5-door Hyundai i30, but it sports a longer, more stylish body that adds plenty of space in the trunk area.

Compared to the previous model, the i30 Tourer’s length increased 185 mm for a total of 4,485 mm, which makes it one of the most spacious models in the European C-segment car category.

That extra space is most notable in the trunk of the new i30 Tourer, which now comes in at a very roomy, best-in-segment 528 litres. That is a good sight larger than its 5-door Hyundai i30 sibling, which has a still very impressive 378 litre capacity. In addition, even more space can be created by folding down the rear seats, tripling capacity to 1,642 litres.

Much like the hatchback version, the i30 Tourer was designed with the European customer in mind. Designed at Hyundai’s European Research and Development centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, both the wagon and the hatchback versions of the i30 were developed at the same time so as to allow the stylists to create a strong family resemblance whilst following the fluidic sculpture that Hyundai Motor Company now employs on all their vehicles.

From the front, the i30 Tourer / Wagon looks much like the 5-door version, with its hexagon shaped grille and jewel-like headlamps.

It’s the rear-end that sets the wagon apart though, with the roofline extending over the passenger and cargo area in a way that adds a real dynamic element to its overall stance. That is part of the fluidic sculpture approach which basically tries to make a stationary vehicle appear as though it is in motion.

That’s not the only thing that makes the body look so dynamic though, with that look being aided by a horizontal swage line that runs along the sides of the body, rising up to meet the rear lights.

The rear windscreen and deep tailgate also add to the effect, and owners will love that the tailgate opens to bumper level, making it much easier to load and unload items in the trunk.

The second-generation Hyundai i30 Tourer / Wagon will come in three different petrol and diesel options, which happen to be the same options as the 5-door. Depending on choice, they will produce anywhere from 90 to 135 horsepower. It will also come with a Five Year Triple Care package which includes 5-years of unlimited warranty, roadside assistance, and vehicle health checks.
